What Affects the Price?
Structure only vs all-inclusive
The base hire price covers the marquee frame and canvas. Flooring, lighting, furniture, heating and power add significantly. An all-inclusive wedding package typically costs 3-5x the structure-only price.
Guest count and size
Marquee pricing scales with floor area. A 50-guest marquee (6m x 9m) costs roughly half of a 150-guest structure (9m x 18m). Add 20% for a dance floor or stage area.
Season and day of week
Peak season (May to September) commands full prices. Off-peak hire (October to April) is typically 10-20% cheaper. Friday and Sunday weddings are sometimes discounted vs Saturday.
Location and access
Remote or difficult-access sites cost more due to transport and setup time. Sites without hard standing may need ground preparation. Delivery distance from the supplier also affects the price.
Extras that add up
Flooring (£500-£2,000), lighting (£300-£1,500), heating (£200-£800), furniture (£500-£3,000), generators (£300-£800), luxury toilets (£500-£2,000). These can double or triple the base hire cost.
Common Questions
How far in advance should I book a marquee?
For peak-season weddings, 9-12 months ahead. For other events, 3-6 months is usually sufficient. Last-minute availability is rare in summer.
Do I need a permit for a marquee?
Not for private land. If the marquee is on public land or blocks a road, you may need local council permission. Your supplier can advise.
Can a marquee go on any surface?
Most marquees need a flat area with grass or gravel for stakes. Hard surfaces (patios, car parks) require weighted anchoring at extra cost. Slopes up to 5% can usually be levelled with flooring.
What size marquee do I need?
As a rough guide: 8-10 sq ft per seated guest (including tables), or 6 sq ft per standing guest. A 100-guest seated dinner needs approximately 9m x 15m.
Is a site visit included?
Most suppliers offer free site visits within their service area (typically 30-50 miles). This covers ground assessment, access planning and power requirements.
